From choirs, orchestras, and marching bands to soul, jazz, rock, pop, folk, hip hop, and electronic groups, cabaret stage shows, and solo projects, it seems Carsey has done it all. She plays both piano and guitar and performs both solo and with a full band ranging in size and instrumentation depending on the show. Carsey also produces electronic music and has been featured as an instrumentalist and vocalist on many projects in partnership with Netflix (Babysitter’s Club, Better Call Saul, Tiger King The Musical), The Voice, Joy Ride (award winning short film), Rapture (Versa Media show), as well as on albums by Whitney Tai, Cesar Saez, Phoebe Silva, Kid Lightning, Clark Chimp, and Feral Kizzy.
Brenda Carsey has played at heavy hitting music festival Lightning in a Bottle opening for The California Honeydrops and Orgone, Feed LA Festival opening for Daniel Lanois and Lantz Lazwell, and Echo Park Rising Festival 5 years in a row to name a few. Carsey has toured the entire Western US (California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona), has toured throughout Alaska, and also frequents Nashville and New York. In her home base of Los Angeles she has performed on the iconic stages of The Teragram Ballroom (opening for Chris Ayer), The Hotel Cafe (headlined), The Bootleg Theater (opening for Karmic), The Moroccan Lounge (co-headlining with Livingmore), The Satellite, Harvard & Stone (headlined + residency) and more. Carsey is sponsored by companies Dexibell (keyboard) and Sennheiser (microphones) and has been featured in LA Weekly, Atwood Magazine, Culture Collide, Buzzbands.LA, and more.
Carsey delivers an engaging, energetic show, seamlessly mixing a unique blend of musical genres. She has an unmistakably unique sound rooted in the classic pop diaspora. Carsey’s voice is uninhibited with virtuosic vocal range, mixing a syrupy sweet sound with a beautiful darkness. She will stop you in your tracks with poetic lyrics, fluid melodies, engaging chords progressions, funky rhythms, and a voice filled with passion and soul.
BodaciousThang got her start early, performing at her father’s churches in North Carolina and in jazz clubs as a teen in Kansas City.
Now based in Hollywood, CA, BodaciousThang is making a name for herself as a rising artist and songwriter. Her main influences include Gospel, Hip Hop, Soul & R&B. “I pretty much sing and write whatever I want when I want. I just like good shit. Fuck boxes.” – BT
Phoebe Silva is a Los Angeles based singer, songwriter, violinist and multi-instrumentalist. Her original music combines elements of jazz, folk, retro-pop and blues to create a wholly unique and timeless sound, evoking frequent comparisons to artists such as Amy Winehouse, Linda Rondstat, Hailey Reinhart, Lily Allen, Adele and Gwen Stefani.
Phoebe has performed all over the US, Canada and the UK as a member of various indie bands and theater productions. In the four years since she relocated to Los Angeles, she has become a sought- after violinist and backup singer for local indie artists in all genres, from folk, country and bluegrass, to pop, soul, jazz and alternative rock. She has built up an extensive resume as a live and studio session musician and has played venues all over town including the Satellite, the Troubadour, the Hi Hat, the Hotel Cafe, the Peppermint Club, the Whisky a Go-Go, and many more.
A classically trained violinist from the age of 3, Phoebe’s mother and grandmother were both Suzuki method violin teachers who passed their knowledge down to her. At age 11 she began to study classical vocal technique after developing an interest in musical theater.
Phoebe studied voice, method acting and other performance techniques at the University of the Arts where she earned a BFA in Theater Arts, specializing in musical theater. For nearly a decade she performed professionally in regional and off-Broadway theater productions and was a member of the Actor’s Equity Association.
Phoebe is self taught on mandolin, ukulele and guitar. Her songwriting is largely lyric and melody driven. She draws influence from her lifelong love of jazz standards, classic American folk songs, R&B, 50’s and 60’s rock n’roll, Motown, as well as the indie folk-pop artists she grew up listening to in the 90’s. Her passion is creating music in any genre that feels timeless, essential at its emotional core, and communicates authentic truths in a direct manner.
Fargo’s Jessica Vines wraps her way around the listener’s attention. Swinging from soul to jazz to pop, Vines’ distinctive vocals bop their way above the whimsical wind instruments, bubbly bass and relentless riffs in her self-penned debut album Moving Too Fast. Sounding well beyond her 24 years, Vines’ slows things down when it fits the mood and speeds things up at all the right times. Released in early 2020, Moving Too Fast varies from the jazz-funk fused title track to the tantalizing “What They Say” to the jammin’ “Never Again”.
“I grew up listening to many styles of music, including rock, funk, jazz,” Vines, who earned a jazz studies degree at Minnesota State University Moorhead, said. “When I started writing, I wanted the polished sound to be a combination of getting people to dance and taking them to a headspace where they can escape. At first people might feel like I sound like an old soul, and that’s because I have such a strong appreciation for early jazz. I wanted to modernize that sound and share my passion.”
