Jesse Malin’s latest single “The Way We Used to Roll” is “a celebration of life and its tribal rituals that have always been connected to music—the dancing, the laughter, the mischief, and community,” he says, ahead of his September album on Wicked Cool Records. “There’s a fire behind this one—it’s a record of survival, made during a time with heavy soul searching, vengeance and gratitude. “
“My first album, The Fine Art Of Self-Destruction, was about finding glory in the wreckage,” says Malin. Produced by Lucinda Williams and Tom Overby, Malin’s 2019’s album Sunset Kids and is about owning it. “The failures, the victories, the moments. And moving up from there.”
Sunset Kids earned ★★★★ from Rolling Stone and won three Independent Music Awards.
Shilpa Ray will support
Shilpa Ray is a singer songwriter from NYC. She has been compared to everyone from Screamin Jay Hawkins, Blondie, Nick Cave, Ella Fitzgerald but usually when someone says, “You know who you remind me of?”, she rolls her eyes, finishes her whiskey and sighs –cause if you’re really in the know, she has a sound that is all her own. Shilpa Ray is grateful to have survived the pandemic and can’t wait to play her solo show at Hotel Cafe. You can check her music out at https://shilparay.bandcamp.com/music
