Born in London but raised in Los Angeles, Kaya Stewart grew up surrounded by music and began writing songs at the early age of 6. She made her first public appearance onstage at the famous The Troubadour at the tender age of 12 years. Stewart then found
her place in Los Angeles’ live music scene, sneaking into shows and establishing herself as a performer in her own right. Stewart emerged on the scene with her self penned song, “In Love With A Boy,” in 2014 a song she had written when she was 13 years old and still in school. This landed her a publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music. The candid yet relatable track solidified Stewart as one of pop music’s most promising up-and-coming young artists. After releasing her self-titled debut
album in 2016, Stewart toured non-stop across the U.S., including the infamous Warped Tour where she was the youngest female artist to ever participate in the iconic touring festival.
Taking time off to refine her sound in 2017, Stewart found herself in the Nashville songwriting scene, where she met producer and artist in his own right, Jamie Lidell. Striking an immediate connection, the pair began working on what became an entirely-unplanned EP released in 2020, Miss Kaya. “Jamie and I just clicked. We came from two completely different standpoints but for some reason we totally understood each other.” Fusing together Stewart’s candid songwriting and soulful vocals, along with Lidell’s experimental synth heavy writing and production, Stewart’s material found her transitioning into adulthood, discovering her creative independence, and reminiscing on her past while establishing herself as a left-of-center pop artist.
Joining forces with her father, Dave Stewart (Artist/Producer/Songwriter and co-founder of the Eurythmics) in 2021, Kaya took a trip to Nashville once again to make her as yet untitled second studio album due out early 2022. “Everything came so naturally in the studio, we were doing a song a day at one point. This is definitely the album I am the most proud of.” Coming from a place of raw emotion and self discovery, Kaya was determined to find her own unique vocal intensive sound, and the senior Stewart helped her do just that. With powerful guitars, undeniably catchy melodies and passionate searing vocals, Kaya is back in full swing. “Making this album, all I could think was how excited I am to play these songs live. My favorite thing in the world is being able to connect with fans and perform the songs I write. I crave that and I can’t wait until I get to do that with this album.”
Stewart is constantly exploring and redefining what it means to be a pop artist in today’s world – especially one which is currently filled with so much uncertainty. “There was never a moment of ‘oh this is what I want to do’. It’s always just been a part of who I am.”
