Moonsville Collective, Leean Skoda & Tim Hill

February 5 9:00 pm PST

Second Stage

Doors Open: 8:30 pm

Moonsville Collective is a Southern California folk band that writes songs about the terrain of their own stories and lives. During an age of short attention spans and speedy business, the band draws their inspiration from a simple well and holds firm to the truth that good songs can carry people through the best of, and the worst of times. Ten years in, the band has ebbed and flowed through the various sounds of the Americana Genre, releasing three full length records on Nashville’s Rock Ridge Music (2013 – 2015), as well as self releasing EP’s Moonsville I-V (2018), showcasing their ability to weave in and out of a more electric, folk rock sound.
After years of playing some 500+ shows and some lineup changes, Moonsville found themselves in a period of rediscovery, finding their way back to their string band roots that have always defined the undertone of their song writing. With a new full length album in the works, Moonsville looks to venture into the next decade a bit more seasoned and ready to reestablish themselves as a premier act in the Americana community. In 2021, Moonsville was invited to perform at the American Music Awards Festival, as well as open for chart topping Cordovas band on their Winter Western Wail Tour. The new year will see the band supporting critically acclaimed Susto on a majority of their west coast dates, and settle in to release the first full length album in 4 years.
Moonsville Collective was named best live band by OC Weekly in 2012. Best Bluegrass/Americana Band by CBS LA (2013) and Best Country Americans Band by OC Music Awards (2013). The band has shared festival lineups with Tom Petty and Jackson Brown, sharing direct stages with Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, White Buffalo, Willie Watson (OCMS), Aoife O’donovan and Sara & Sean Watkins (Nickle Creek).

A ladybug on a warm leaf, a lazy dog asleep on a diving board, a thirsty LA scene wrapped in a tequila duvet. Tim Hill’s songs stall you in a cul-de-sac of forever summer, offering all shades of sonic blue, blurred Mexican mirages and the heavy velvet of a closing night.
Los Angeles born. Whittier grown. He translates what he knows; a hometown where the Dodgers rule the roost, time carved out for slow endeavors is paramount, and coffee is the blueprint for the day.
He seasoned his musical skillet as a keyboard/saxophone player touring with artists such as Nick Waterhouse, Curtis Harding and the Allah Las. In 2018, he released a 45 entitled “Paris, Texas,” b/w a cover of Warren Zevon’s “Steady Rain,” under the Allah Las’ label, Calico Discos.
Tim Hill’s full-length release, “Payador”, puts itself on the villa’s shelf, painted with sounds of introverted West coast visions. Some songs are fraught with above-the-palm tree vocals and lonely harmonica solos while others park their front tire on top a warm curb. Its full throttle suburban shade, acoustic strands of sun and that Spanish radio station floating from your neighbors window.

Leeann Skoda is a vocalist and songwriter based in Los Angeles. Combining intricately-woven melodies and ethereal, folky vocals, Skoda creates a dreamy kind of Americana. She has spent years performing country and bluegrass music, attracted by its rawness and simplicity, but her songwriting draws from a well of musical influences, from art-rock to Baroque.
A deep curiosity about the human experience drives her songwriting, and she pulls from anything from strange daily encounters to literature. Skoda released her first full-length album Call Me Back Home in 2018 via BIG EGO Records and has also worked as a session singer and “side woman” for artists including Noah Cyrus, Psychic Temple ,and Jason Hawk Harris.
Her latest project, Lucky Penny, features songs that she wrote during a month-long songwriting binge in 2018. With themes of loss and transformation, the EP has a wide sonic range, from bright and driving to tranquil and reflective. Recorded at Studio PunchUp in Nashville along with a cast of ace Nashville and LA-based players, this record merges pop and Americana in a lush and refreshing way.
