Mother West and Cash NYC Records presents: Kris Gruen and Eva & The Vagabond Tales (In The Round), Jake Pinto, They Kiss (Single Release Show) and Jack Fanselau
July 13 7:00 pm PDT
Doors Open: 6:30 pm$10.00
Kris Gruen writes songs about grownup life infused with a mystic wonder, softening the world’s sharp edges like a glass of exceptionally fine bourbon. Kris grew up steeped in classic records. His Americana influenced new folk is grounded in the tradition of great narrative songwriters like Cat Stevens and Paul Simon and yet Kris’s voice is strikingly current. A New York City native who’s put down roots in Vermont, Kris effortlessly blends sagacious wit and emotional depth. His recent album Coast and Refuge has brought him together with other artists, writers and producers from around the globe to create a collection of songs that is being critically acclaimed worldwide.
Kris has shared stages across three continents with the likes of Anais Mitchell, Sean Lennon, The Avett Brothers, Alejandro Escovedo, The Bones of J.R. Jones, Jesse Malin, Craig Finn, Meadows, Motopony, Supla aand more.
Jake Pinto is a songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist based out of New York City and Los Angeles. His upcoming record Sad Songs for Happy People is a collection of piano based rock songs born out of his nearly decade long adventure living in Brooklyn. In the music, the piano dances under melodies that jump and sing about life and love; his connection to the sun soaked 70s aesthetic is resoundingly present but for Jake his guiding star is always something more important – honesty. When he isn’t writing, producing or making records with his riff rock project The YeahTones, you can find Jake on tour with Afrobeat pioneers Antibalas, as well as with the up and coming indie funk group Magic City Hippies.
Eva & the Vagabond Tales is a music group led by singer-songwriter Eva Mikhailovna. The songs combine Eastern European folk, vintage pop, and ragtime into a musical melting pot, creating an alluring sound that “transcends time and continents.” Building its sound from the foundations of old time music and melancholy storytelling, it bends the laws of traditional songwriting to become a sound all its own. The group has toured across the Pacific Northwest, sharing the stage with M. Ward, Erica Rhodes, Pompeya, as well as other notable acts. Mikhailovna has worked with Brooklyn based producer Charles Newman on her 2019 full length album, Uncharted Ocean (released on Mother West label). The group’s music has been featured in NPR Variety shows and commercials around the world. Recently their song, “Rose Colored Dreams” was featured in the title credits for comedian Erica Rhodes’ comedy special “La Vie En Rhodes,” filmed at the Rose Bowl. Mikhailovna is currently working on her third full-length album, to be released in 2023. One can count on finding Eva and the “Vagabonds” serenading crowds at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, CA where they can be caught playing their original songs as well as special takes on Disney classics. “Some of the songs feel like a personal experience, and some are like adventures from another time or another place.”- David Fleming, NPR 2019.
A political refugee and a globetrotting DJ; a classically trained multi-instrumentalist and a film school grad; a perfectionist singer and an inspired producer. Individually, Anna Makovchik and Francesco Civetta (aka Cash) boast fascinating backstories; together, they’re L.A. synth-pop phenom They Kiss, whose debut album Feeling With You drops on August 26.
Co-produced by GRAMMY-winning Kanye cohort Mikalai Skrobat, Feeling With You explores love and life experience through pop-savvy electronica with a rock & roll soul, its cinematic sensibilities skewed through a singularly transatlantic prism.
Their upcoming single Lookin’ 4 Love (out 7/13) is a collaboration with their friend Julian Lennon.
When hanging with. Julian in the south of France several years ago around the Cannes Film Festival that Cash was DJing at, Cash told Julian he really felt connected to his track Lookin’ 4 Luv from his 2013 release “Everything Changes” and wanted to create a remix or new track out of it.
Once back in NYC, Cash teamed up with producer David Sisko and recording artist Sandflower and began working on creating a new song using Julian’s chorus hook and sampling his piano riff. They recorded new verses and built a new song around those samples, and thus Lookin’ 4 Love (Cash NYC Remix) was born.
Jack Fanselau, an emerging pop soul singer-songwriter from Sacramento California, is an artist who loves to bring color to music through lyric and musicality. Originally a classical vocalist who has placed in several national competitions, Jack uses his wide range as a tool to reflect the power of the music he sings. As someone who turned to his upright piano as an outlet for his emotions, Jack believes the most important part of music is being real with yourself and reflecting your emotions through the music you create. Jack’s debut single “Do You Miss Me” will be released July 8th. Give the record a spin before you come out and hear “Do You Miss Me” and much more live at the Hollywood Cafe July 13th.
