Rubi Ate the Fig with Miles Jay

Rubi Ate the Fig is an American Rock Band infused with Middle-Eastern color and groove. Featuring Master musicians from both genres, Rubi Ate The Fig tells the story of the desert and with mystical lyrics and exotic sets, transports the listener to another world.

Songwriter, Vocalist, and Guitarist, Sharón Eliashar was born in Jerusalem and raised in the California desert. Sharón studied classical composition, and Middle-Eastern Percussion and incorporates her study of Middle Eastern rhythms into her western songwriting, writing songs with fluid time changes and a Middle-Eastern groove. Sharón has spent much time with the Bedouins of the Sinai Desert, a profound source of inspiration for her music and evocative lyrics.

Marc Mann, Guitar and Keyboards, is a musician, arranger, and conductor from Los Angeles.and does arrangements and orchestrations for TV and film. Projects and artists Marc has worked with include: The Beatles (Anthology), George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Electric Light Orchestra, Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Oingo Boingo, Neil Young, Sheryl Crow, Kenny Loggins, System of A Down, Madonna, Neil Diamond, Barbra Streisand, John Fogerty, Dan Fogelberg, and many other great artists. Marc had the honor of performing at the Royal Albert Hall for the George Harrison Tribute Concert, and appears in the DVD “Concert for George”.

Ali Paris, Qanun, is from Palestine, and captivates audiences worldwide with his unique fusion of Middle Eastern and Western music styles highlighted by both technical skill and emotional expression. He is a virtuoso of the Qanun, a rare Middle-Eastern 76-string plucked zither that dates back to the 14th century.

Danny Montgomery, Drums, is a San Francisco native, living in Spain and working most of the year in Europe. He studied orchestral percussion and composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and has recorded and performed with Percy Sledge, Ray Charles, Billy Paul, Mose Allison, Taj Mahal, Jack Sheldon, Johnette Napolitano and Jerry Harrison.

Kenny Blye, Electric Bass, is a uniquely creative and highly melodic bass player, having studied with the great Motown Jamie Jamerson. Kenny has toured extensively with theatre productions such as road Grease and Godspell, and has played with Fabian, Nancy Nevins, Sweetwater, King Curtis and many others.

Luke Notary, Middle-Eastern percussion, a Los Angeles musician has played around the world with Cirque du Soleil’s “Varekai”, Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre and David Parsons Dance Company.

Miles Jay’s musical journey has taken him around the world as an upright bassist, film composer, producer and musical director. Over ten years living in Egypt, Lebanon, Greece, Syria, and extensive time in East Africa, Miles played with some of the most beloved artists of the regions, including Youssou N’dour, Fathy Salama, Mashrou’ Leyla, Ziad Rahbani, Nasseer Shama, Ross Daly and Zeid Hamdan. Through this time, Miles also picked up numerous lesser known instruments along the way, as well designed and built his own upright bass especially for traveling and blending with some of these textures. These unique voices played, looped and sampled together paint a colorful reflection of traveling, and Miles is thrilled to present a special solo set this Sunday at the hotel cafe in Hollywood.
