The Brilliance & Friends (Charles Jones, Liz Vice, James Paek)

August 11 8:00 pm PDT

Main Stage

Doors Open: 7:00pm

The Brilliance: The Brilliance creates art that inspires empathy. In a world where hate is the language of the day, racial tension runs high, violence is a means to an end and shootings are a common occurrence, it’s easy to give in to despair. Yet, in the midst of New York City, one of the country’s most diverse and socially involved cities, lies a musical collective creating art that’s counter cultural. The Brilliance’s acoustic-electric, symphonic-pop songs invite you to step outside yourself; to see the world through the eyes of the other, the stranger, and those you may consider your enemy. The band is comprised of songwriter David Gungor and composer John Arndt, who crafted their newest album with a full orchestra and choir, demonstrating wide-ranging sonic influences from Bach and Stravinsky to Jon Brion and The Beatles. The Brilliance takes the listener on a beautiful, all-encompassing emotional journey toward the discovery of our need for each other. The two men have shared a brotherly bond since childhood when their fathers played in a wedding band together in the ’70s. Throughout college, they made music together in a variety of bands. Eventually, David wanted to write original music, so he sent some ideas to Arndt, and a unique musical journey began as the two, along with an ensemble of musician friends, began recording under the moniker of The Brilliance.

Charles Jones: Charles has been playing piano since the age of 2. Since moving out to LA, Charles has had the pleasure of traveling the world and playing with Jennifer Hudson, Raphael Saadiq, Joss Stone and is currently working with Andra Day. Charles has also done work on films, being a cast member of the hit “Dreamgirls” and sang the ending sequence to the movie “Bad Moms 2.” He has worked with artists on The Tonight Show, American Music Awards, Grammy Awards and the Oscar Awards. He arranged a performance of Andra Day’s “Rise Up” for Whoopie Goldberg’s birthday on “The View” that was nominated for an Emmy Award. Since becoming an artist, he’s recorded many videos with ScaryPockets, Family Company and Vulfpeck. In September of 2019, he performed his song “Baby I Don’t Know” with Vulfpeck to a sold out audience at Madison Square Garden.

Liz Vice:  An American gospel, soul, and R&B artist from Portland, Oregon now based in Los Angeles, CA, Liz Vice has drawn comparisons to Mavis Staples, Aretha Franklin and some of the greatest gospel/soul singers of all time, Liz has successfully supported/toured with Lake Street Dive, Hiss Golden Messenger, Shawn Mullins, War and Treaty, The Wood Brothers, Joss Stone and, Mt. Joy, among others. Both her albums There’s A Light (2015) and latest Save Me (2018) debuted on Billboard’s Gospel chart.

James Paek: James Paek is a singer/songwriter that sits at the intersection of culture and spirituality. He has always been fascinated how stories connect us to one another. With songwriting placements with the likes of Pablo Nouvelle (Armada) & Marley Munroe (Lady Blackbird) and even a short stint on TV (ALTEREGO on Fox), James is venturing out to tell his own story for the first time with his debut EP entitled “Exit Us” which has found him listed on multiple editorial playlists, including Apple Music “Risers” and Spotify’s “RADAR US.”
