Tim Mercer and Rachael MacFarlane

December 17, 2021 7:00 pm PST

Second Stage

Doors Open: 6:30 pm

Tim Mercer is a singer/songwriter out of West Hollywood, CA. He spent 12 years in Brooklyn, NY, fronting the rock band Daphne. During his time in New York, he won K-Rock Battle of the Bands and was the runner up in the HBO Rock the Stones Contest, as well as the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. He was also a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Contest out of 16,000 entries. His songs have been featured in Ted and Ted 2, as well the hit Fox TV show Family Guy.

In 2016, Mercer released his debut solo album Casey, a collection of songs about the ongoing conversations between him and his late wife Casey, following her tragic passing in June 2011. “It was the most crippling experience I ever thought possible,” he explained. “But writing that album brought me closer to her and helped me through some of the soul-crushing pain.”

Teaming up with producers PJ Bianco (Florence and the Machine, LP, Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas), Marc Jordan (Velvet Revolver, The Cult) and Jonathan Wyman (The Pretty Reckless, Rustic Overtones), the LP was a departure from Mercer’s rock and roll roots, with sounds reminiscent of Peter Gabriel and Jeff Buckley. His lyrics are soulful and genuine, taking the listener from the heartbreak of losing the love of a lifetime to the hope of the two soulmates reuniting one day.

Two years later, Mercer released his second record Aspartame, returning to his ‘90s alt-rock sound, a punch akin to the Foo fighters. The edgy album garnered rave reviews, saying, “A rewarding listen. There’s a glistening hook around every corner” even comparing Mercer’s fluid guitar leads to Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Billy Corgan. Former KCRW legend Nic Harcourt summed up Mercer’s music perfectly: “Dripping with blistering guitar riffs, melodic choruses and lyrics born out of the sheer will of survival, Aspartame is the direct in your face American rock record you’ve all been waiting for.”

Born and raised in a small New England town, Rachael MacFarlane began her voiceover career in 1998 after moving to Los Angeles. With a background in musical theater and a lifelong love of animation, Rachael fell in love with voiceover on her first job, a role on Cartoon Network’s Johnny Bravo, and has been giving voice to animated characters ever since. She has been the voice of Hayley Smith on the long-running hit animated sitcom American Dad! since 2005, and has been a guest star on the hugely popular Family Guy dozens of times. Currently, Rachael’s voice can be heard on Robot Chicken, Family Guy, American Dad!, Fancy Nancy and Owl House. Aside from her voiceover work, Rachael has a profound love of music. Her musical background and love of jazz singing led her to Concord Records, where she recorded her first album Hayley Sings in 2012. Rachael’s singing can be heard on the popular series Sofia the First, as well as the Christmas classic Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas.
