Writer’s Block Presents: Nathan Colberg w/ James Spaite and Van Buren
August 23 7:00 pm PDT
Doors Open: 6:30pm$15.00
Nathan Colberg is a 26 year old singer-songwriter from Charlottesville, VA. Although he has never received any formal musical training, Colberg grew up playing around on the family piano. But it wasn’t until college that he discovered his passion—and talent—for songwriting.
During his senior year of college at University of Virginia, he began to share some of his original songs, performing in living rooms and small gatherings with friends. His transparent songwriting, catchy melodies, and pristine vocals captivated a rapidly growing fan base on the east coast. With a series of sold-out shows under his belt in his first years as a recording artist, Colberg was ready to hit the ground running for his first headlining tour in March of 2020.
Enter Covid 19.
During a seemingly endless quarantine, Colberg set out to check off another musical bucket-list item, a pop-inspired project. In Spring of 2021, he flew to Los Angeles to see through the vision. Collaborating with producer Jason Mater (Highschool Musical the Series, Encanto) & Chumba (Due Lipa, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber) and with songwriting contributions from Sam Martin (John Legend, Maroon 5, Jason DeRulo), Bo Rinehart (Needtobreathe), and Matt Wertz, they completed a six song EP, titled “Dream On, Kid.” The title serves as both a touch of self deprecation to his ambition as a writer and yet also a message of hope to keep going when hope seems all but lost. Wanting to push the limits of his creativity, each song on the EP has a “Reimagined” version completely reproduced in a different genre, which showcases each song in a different light.
Now, Colberg, an independent artist, is picking up where he left off, but this time with two albums-worth of un-toured material. Colberg will be performing his “Dream On, Kid.” project as well as hand selected songs from his growing catalogue of music, which has garnered over 10 million Spotify streams and counting. The setlist will also include songs from “Into the Wild”, a nine song album with each song being written for a loved one. This album has still yet to be toured and played live in its entirety as it was released at the beginning of the covid shutdown.
Colberg’s full length album “Dream On, Kid. (Reimagined)” is set for release August 25th of 2022.
San Diego based singer-songwriter / fingerstyle guitarist, James Spaite, has been actively recording, performing, and touring since 2013. After the success of his 2018 Sophomore Album, Riverside, Spaite released a series of six singles lyrically concerning mental health. He has an EP and Concept Album currently on the docket for release in 2022 and 2023. Both on record and live, expect honest lyrics and intricate guitar.
Ted Moock grew up in Oklahoma, fell in love with songwriting in Nashville, and then fell in love in Los Angeles. His music touches on the beauty of love and human connection that he found along the way, as well as the pain of heartbreak over love lost. He makes music under the name Van Buren — the street he first lived on with his wife, and the place where his music career began.
Van Buren will be releasing a song every month in 2022, starting with his next single “Got Away,” which comes out on June 17th.
