SUMMARY:Tyler Halverson
DESCRIPTION:Tyler Halverson knows who he is\, and sometimes he doesn’t like it. But all of the\nmistakes he’s made and hearts he’s broken have led him to In Defense of Drinking\, his\nstone-cold honest country album that takes a stark look at a life lived on the road.\n“It’s been a life spent falling in and out of love and finding something to write about\, at\nthe expense of your heart and somebody’s else’s\,” Halverson says. “I’m not proud of the\nactions that that boy took to inspire these songs. But I’m very proud of how they turned\nout. The Nashville scene today is all so pretty and polished\, and some artists try to\ncome out looking a certain way\, but how about you just show yourself exactly how you\nare\, the good and bad?” \nGrowing up in the tiny town of Canton\, South Dakota\, Halverson has never been afraid\nto be himself. Before he answered the call of the road\, playing bars and rodeo beer\ngardens\, he spent as much time on his skateboard as he did showing cattle at livestock\nshows. “I grew up in sale barns and skate parks\,” he says\, and those two disparate\nworlds inform the music he makes. There’s a decidedly alt-country edge to the songs on\nIn Defense of Drinking\, including the thumping\, unrepentant single “More Hearts Than\nHorses.” \n“If you come walking my way/I’ll send you running someday\,” he sings over pedal steel\nand acoustic guitar. It’s an admission as striking as that of Willie and Waylon\, when they\nsang “Take what you need from the ladies and leave them/with the words of a sad\ncountry song” in “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys.” \n“That comes with the territory of being a troubadour\,” Halverson says. “It’s a warning:\nwhatever you’ve heard about cowboys and cowboy singers is probably true\, and\nsometimes you best just leave it alone.” \nRecorded at Amber Sound in Hermitage\, Tennessee\, and produced by Halverson\, Ryan\nYoumans\, and Gary Stanton (of Muscadine Bloodline)\, In Defense of Drinking builds on\nthe foundation Halverson created with his 2024 Western Amerijuana project. There are\nsongs about self-induced heartbreak (the alt-rock/country stomper “Ft. Worth Losing”)\,\nself-medication (the deceptively gentle title track)\, and the desperate search for\nredemption (the hushed hymn “Son Brother Believer”)\, all of it shot through with a\ndecidedly Western vibe. \nHalverson comes by that aesthetic naturally. He spent time not only in his native South\nDakota\, but all throughout the American West\, including playing cowboy on a Wyoming\nranch (which inspired the cult hit “Mac Miller”). “Beer Garden Baby\,” his beloved fan\nfavorite\, was born from those rodeo gigs\, and he re-records it as a duet with Parker\nMcCollum for In Defense of Drinking. He’s also set to open a string of shows for the\nTexas-turned-Nashville-star. \n“Parker has always been good to us\,” Halverson says. “The original version of that song\ncaught fire in Texas and to go back and put some Texas royalty on top of it isn’t a bad\nrecipe.” \nTexas is in the DNA of the music Halverson writes and records. He’s been all over the\nLone Star state with his guitar and harmonica and came up with some of his best songs\nthere. In the tailgate jam “Like a Rodeo\,” featuring Australian country star Wade Forster\,\nHalverson struggles to connect with another restless soul: an ambitious barrel racer.\n“Could she ever love me like the rodeo?” he sings. \nHalverson wrote the track after lighting out from Tennessee to Texas to find himself. “I\ngot pissed off with Nashville and ran away to Turkey\, Texas\,” he says. “I was crashing\nwith some buddies in a trailer\, smoking it out\, and writing songs. ‘Like a Rodeo’ is about\nchasing somebody who is also chasing something\, and wondering if those paths are\never going to cross.” \nMore often than not\, they don’t\, Halverson has learned. But he’s still hoping that one\nday he’ll find his settled down life. He even writes about having “Cowboy Babies” in one\nof the album’s more sweet numbers and likes to imagine that’s in the cards for him. In\nthe gentle ballad “Son Brother Believer\,” he all but prays for it. \n“You can lose yourself in the troubadour lifestyle\, where every night is a damn party and\nyou’re far from your family\, your home\, and your faith\,” he says. “So\, this album may be\na little bit of a personal battle: Who are you on the road vs. who are you at home. These\nsongs are often about me admitting that I can be reckless and impulsive\, but that I’m\ntrying my best. Conflict isn’t always bad if you can make some good out of it.”\nThat’s one of Halverson’s goals for In Defense of Drinking. Does he have any others? \nHe shoots a shit-eating grin. “I hope I can buy some cows with this record.”

SUMMARY:Block
DESCRIPTION:Block belongs to a rarefied category of artists—one who has not simply ridden the wave of a genre\, he’s made waves by creating one. From his first underground cult-hit record which helped launch the anti-folk movement of late 1990’s New York City to the global 2025 deluxe-edition reissue series of his storied catalog\, Block has broken boundaries while setting standards for commercial and critical success. His influence can be felt in every corner of modern indie\, folk-punk\, and lo-fi songwriting\, alongside contemporaries Regina Spektor\, Beck\, and Ani DiFranco. Now\, Block releases his forthcoming new record Love Crash\, out this year on Meridian (ECR Music Group). Produced by Chris Kuffner (Ingrid Michaelson\, Regina Spektor)\, mixed and mastered by Blake Morgan (Lenny Kravitz\, Lesley Gore\, Janita)\, this new single showcases Block at the top of his game—as incisive\, authentic\, and emotionally vulnerable as ever.

SUMMARY:Maty Noyes
DESCRIPTION:Maty Noyes is a genre-bending artist whose voice and live presence stop rooms cold. Raised in Corinth\, Mississippi\, and shaped by Southern storytelling and pop ambition\, she brings a raw\, magnetic energy to her music—blurring the lines between Americana\, pop\, and country. After leaving home for Nashville at 16\, Maty quickly emerged as a singular voice\, gaining global attention through her feature on The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness and Kygo’s “Stay\,” which has surpassed 500 million streams. Her early releases\, including Noyes Complaint and breakout tracks like “in my miNd\,” introduced a fearless vocalist with sharp hooks and emotional depth. \nToday\, Maty is in her most compelling artistic era yet. Her current sound lives in an Americana-pop lane—warm\, textured\, and unfiltered—grounded in her Mississippi roots and elevated by modern\, left-of-center production\, with subtle hints of country and rock. On stage\, she commands attention with a mix of vulnerability\, confidence\, and theatrical edge\, delivering performances that feel intimate\, confrontational\, and deeply human. Whether in stripped-down moments or high-energy sets\, Maty’s shows are immersive and unforgettable\, cementing her reputation as a must-see live artist entering a bold new chapter.

SUMMARY:Melissa Polinar
DESCRIPTION:Melissa Polinar first embarked on her journey when the industry was evolving into something new with the digital age. Many of her first steps forward as a singer-songwriter were in large part thanks to YouTube at its beginning. She bubbled to the top of the website’s music category with a collection of original songs\, which instantly set her apart from most other curators who are more known for covers of pop music. Self-penned songs like “Try” and “Meant to Be” solidified her presence on YouTube not just as a singer\, but an authentic songwriter known for her artistic poise and lyrical sincerity. \nIt was during the formidable years between her YouTube videos and her extensive songwriting experience at a young age in Nashville when she began to fit into her shoes evolving to the artist that she is today. As the old industry further gave way to the social media era\, she was able to reach more of an audience with her work than had arguably ever been available for Asian-American artists before. Polinar put a face and a voice to rising artists worldwide from the early stages of her career onward – thanks to her Internet presence and grassroots approach. In March of 2017\, these events culminated into a spotlight for Polinar at SXSW (South by Southwest) in its first official Asian-American showcase put on by the LA-based nonprofit Kollaboration. \nThroughout her career\, Polinar has gained the respect and recognition of several recognizable artists for her unique soulful vocals\, heart-bearing lyrical content\, and passionate musicianship. These include many other respected singer-songwriters like Jeremy Passion\, Ernie Halter\, Tony Lucca\, and Matt Cusson. Each of one of them collaborated and were featured on 2014’s Calls & Echoes. Polinar’s first full-length album\, it was produced by David Ryan Harris\, Jesse Barrera\, and Josiah Bell. \nShe has also been praised by Grammy Award winners like Questlove (The Roots)\, Mark Kibble (Take 6)\, and India.Arie\, the last of which was also a collaborator on Polinar’s latest project\, Rise At Eventide. Funded by fans via PledgeMusic and independently released worldwide April 2017\,  Rise At Eventide is a testament to the experience Polinar has gained throughout her long-running career. \nListeners are drawn to Polinar’s cover of Sting’s “Fragile”  featuring India.Arie on the project. The two singers draw out a soul from one another that is impressive even by their vocal standards. “Fragile” is just the song for Polinar and her Grammy-winning collaborator to fully deliver the kind of swagger that they can draw out of one another. Given that Polinar has received praise for her music from India.Arie for the past several years\, it also marks a time for the two longtime fans of each other’s art to respectfully make art together. \nRise At Eventide showcases the original music that Polinar has always been best known for. She takes the musical blend of genres ranging from soul to blues and folk that her long-time fans always appreciated in her work and sets it to themes that embrace love\, reflection\, and self-empowerment. Completing the breezy and reflective nature of Rise At Eventide is the artful direction taken with producing and mixing by Polinar’s longtime friend and collaborator\, Jesse Barrera. Polinar also exhibits her production capabilities on co-producing the track “Lost Balloon” which was co-written with Adam Levy (Norah Jones\, Tracy Chapman).\n\nPrevious works released by Polinar include Live at Room 5 Sessions (2015)\, As of Now (2010)\, and Bandcamp releases of her YouTube originals and covers. Outside of writing\, performing\, and producing her own art\, Polinar has contributed her talents across multiple albums by other artists.
