Original Songs of Winter Holidays To benefit Project Angel Food’s Annual Toy Drive for children affected by HIV
Craig Richey is a singer-songwriter and film composer hailed my Film Music Magazine for his ‘effortlessly gliding melody’. Craigs songs have appeared in many of the films he has scored as well as others including ‘The Lucky One’ and ‘The King of Staten Island’. Craig recently completed 2 seasons of the Apple TV+ series ‘Dear…’. Craig stumbled upon a love for writing songs inspired by the winter holidays back in NYC when one snowy evening walking down 8th Avenue in Chelsea he saw a little Christmas tree lying in the gutter, branches browned at the edges, a few odd pieces of tinsel here and there, and covered with the grey exhaust-ridden snow that piles up along city streets after a snowfall. Craig was touched by this image – all the joy this little tree had brought someone, its selfless sacrifice, only to be discarded so thanklessly and left out in the cold. A lyric and melody popped into his head and they’ve kept coming ever since. The songs center on the universal aspects of the winter holidays and celebrate the birth of all children and the return of light. Emotional, irreverent, mystical, humorous. The show includes some spoken word as well. Originated in NYC, this evening has continued to be an annual event in LA since 2000. The audience is asked to bring a gift to donate to Project Angel Food’s Annual Toy Drive benefiting children affected by HIV. Craigs albums ‘Mother & Child: Songs of Christmas’ and ‘Shortest Day of the Year’ are available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and other digital platforms.
