AMI is not just a musician; she’s a force of nature, weaving together colors of harmony
and dissonance, rhythmic complexities, and soul-stirring vocals. Her music is a
testament to resilience, a reflection of her refusal to stand in anyone’s shadow but her
own.
Her journey began at the tender age of 4, pounding out rhythms on the drums in church.
It was there that she fell in love with the spontaneity and creativity of live music, soaking
in every moment of interaction between musicians and congregation. Determined to
master her craft, AMI delved into piano lessons and later enrolled in the state’s only
Performing Arts school at age 10, under the tutelage of Judith Neville. Her competitive
spirit drove her to excel, consistently placing first or second in district and state music
competitions throughout her school years.
College brought new opportunities for AMI to explore her passion. Pursuing a degree in
piano performance at Central State University, she blossomed into a dynamic performer,
unafraid to bare her soul on stage. After graduation, she sought out new sonic
adventures in Chicago, where she formed a band that became a crucible for her
creativity and confidence.
Since then, AMI has collaborated with renowned artists such as Jamila Woods, Smino,
Lizzo, Ari Lennox and currently JoJo and Janelle Monae. Her performances, whether as
producer, songwriter, instrumentalist, vocalist, or musical director, have captivated
audiences around the globe. Unbound by genre, AMI’s musical palette knows no limits,
blending her diverse talents into unforgettable experiences.
In July 2022, tragedy struck when AMI was involved in a car accident, caused by a drunk
driver, that left her with a broken left wrist. But true to her indomitable spirit, she fought
through surgery and therapy, emerging stronger than ever. Now, “With An Open Heart,”
her latest project slated for an upcoming release, AMI channels her resilience into
music, offering a survivor’s perspective on heartbreak, loneliness, and the uncertainties
of life.
