Described by the CBC as ‘one of the shining jewels in the crown of Canadian songwriters’ Jadea Kelly spends her time writing and living in Los Angeles CA. In 2016 she was awarded ‘Contemporary Singer of the Year’ at the Canadian Folk Music Awards for her heartfelt 2016 release ‘Love & Lust’. The featured single ‘Beauty’ was placed on the Lifetime Network feature ‘No One Would Tell’ and the 2017 CBC Rio Paralympics Terry Fox Tribute. Her 2019 EP ‘MWI’ earned ‘Best Score’ from the Hollywood International Documentary Awards. In 2022 her duet with Ryan O’Reilly (Every Little Piece of You) was featured on Station 19 (Hulu / ABC). She also lent vocals to ‘The Immaculate Room’ (Prime / Amazon) which received a Screen Composers ‘Best Score’ nomination in 2022.

She has co written and toured with the likes of Whitehorse, Judy Collins, Catherine MacLellan, Royal Wood, Ken Yates, The Good Lovelies, Kelly Prescott, Garrison Starr, Peter Katz, Ryan O’Reilly, The Digging Roots, Leela Gilday and Joey Landreth. She has also performed and showcased her music across Canada, The United States and Europe, performing at the likes of Americana Fest (Nashville TN), Winnipeg Folk Festival, Calgary Folk Festival, Edmonton’s Interstellar Rodeo, Palm Springs International Film Festival, Metal Toronto and Peterborough Folk Festival. Despite her Americana influence, she is also the featured vocalist with JUNO award winning metal group Protest the Hero (Kezia, Scurrilous and Volition).

Following a pandemic pause, Jadea Kelly returned triumphantly in 2022 with her long awaited fourth studio album. Titled ‘Roses’ and released on March 4th, 2022. The initial singles ‘Driveway’, ‘Any Old Boat’, ‘Happy’ and ‘When I Fly’ earned impressive Spotify, Apple Music & Amazon Music editorial playlists, as well as front cover features on ‘Folk and Friends’ (Spotify) and ‘Fresh Folk Acoustic’ (Amazon Music). Accumulating over 5 million streams. Jadea was also featured on BBC Scotland ‘Another Country’ with Ricky Ross, Global TV and CTV eTalk. The stand out single ‘Happy’ was awarded ‘Single of the Year’ at the Oshawa Music Awards in 2022.

Her fifth studio album ‘Weather Girl’ arrives in October 2024. A majority of the album was produced by Jim Bryson (Ken Yates / Kathleen Edwards), as well as select tracks from Rich Jacques, L.A Recordings (Liam Blomqvist and Anna Vaverkova) and Bill Lefler.

Weather Girl is a name coined by Jadea’s tour mate and collaborator, Ryan O’Reilly. He jokingly used it to describe her debilitating barometric pressure headaches. Any big change in any weather pattern unfortunately sends Jadea into a nausea induced ocular migraine. Weather Girl is a playful nickname but it also jokingly represents her superhero alter ego with ‘the worst superpower ever’ ie predicting storms via migraines and nausea. Metaphorically, the album title and album represents her personal ability to withstand and weather all of life’s changes. With grace and grounding.

Jadea’s grandfather (Gene Kelly) also jokingly referred to Jadea as ‘Weather Girl’ because she apparently had a striking resemblance to the Weather Girl on his local news channel.
