Kendall Jane Meade and Nicole Lawrence

October 30 7:00 pm PDT

Second Stage

Doors Open: 6:30

$10

Kendall Jane Meade is a solo artist and founder of the band Mascott. Jon Pareles of The New York Times once wrote “If Aimee Mann had fended off cynicism, she might sound like Kendall Meade…turn(ing)
folk-rock into stately pop, wrapping vulnerability and longing in quietly radiant arrangements” and Spin Magazine claims Meade hails straight “from the Carly Simon School of Confessional Songwriting.“ Meade’s influences include 60s & 70s folk and pop songwriters like Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Francoise Hardy, Margot Guryan, Carole King, Christine McVie, and indie pop icons like Camera Obscura and The Softies.

An accomplished singer and musician who has contributed to albums or played/sang live with Sparklehorse, Helium, The Spinanes, Lloyd Cole, Gramercy Arms, Anders Parker, Stars, and more, Meade’s original songs have been featured on shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Chuck. Her most recent collaborations include songs with Kris Gruen, Leroy From The North, and an EP of John Prine covers with Jon Derosa of Aarktica. She has recently completed her new solo album, SPACE, produced by Charles Newman (Magnetic Fields, Bones of J.R. Jones, Soko) which will be released in spring 2025. This residency will debut her new material and showcase songs from her back catalog and recent releases.
She is thrilled to play every Wednesday in October at the Hotel Cafe’s second stage with her friends and favorite new artists opening each week.

Nicole Lawrence is your favorite musician’s secret weapon, having toured globally with the likes of Jenny Lewis, Coldplay, Devendra Banhart, King Tuff, and Mary Timony, performing live on Late Night with Angel Olsen and Sharon Van Etten, collaborating in-studio with Neil Hagerty on a Howling Hex album, and soloing on pedal steel alongside none other than Springsteen at MetLife Stadium. Lawrence introduces her own voice, one of dryly poetic, road-tested wisdom, with the casual brilliance of a sought-after
six-string heavyweight. Deftly weaving threads between the bar-smoke virtuosity of J.J. Cale to the slack eccentricity of early Beck, Nicole Lawrence’s debut effort shows the arresting confidence and refreshing wit of a seasoned artist who knows her craft inside and out—and knows what she wants to say with it.
Exploring the real and dark terrain of maturity, Lawrence channels the kind of joy fostered from an evolved, mellowed kind of creative abandon found through both the the trust of working with kindred partners, and an intimacy with one’s own inner material.
