Songwriter David Poe has released seven solo albums. His songs have been recorded by living legends and performed internationally. He has collaborated with celebrated musicians and created memorable work for film, television, and dance. His performances include appearances at the Kennedy Center with the National Symphony, Central Park SummerStage, London’s West End, and the American Repertory Theater, as well as at festivals and on radio programs, and on tour with artists including Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. He is a Composer Fellow of the Sundance Institute and has been a featured vocalist in the Blackstar Symphony, an orchestral presentation of David Bowie’s final album. The Village Voice has described Poe as “the major domo of songwriters.”

After relocating from the American Midwest to New York City, Poe worked as a sound engineer at CBGB’s 313 Gallery before signing with Sony Music Group. His debut album was produced by T Bone Burnett. His songs have also been recorded by Grammy-winning producers Larry Klein, Buddy Miller, and Dave Sitek, and he has produced recordings for artists including Kraig Jarret Johnson, Regina Spektor, and Brendan Hines. His protest songs, including “Who Built the Wall” and “What the President Said,” have received praise from figures such as Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem. His work has also been featured in campaigns for organizations including the Malala Fund, Interfaith Sanctuary, and the You Mean the World Foundation.

His commissioned scores for dance include works for LA Dance Project (Museum of Islamic Art, Doha); Analogue for Rambert in London’s West End; American Repertory Theater (Boston); Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet (New York City); and Shadowland by Pilobolus, on tour since 2009 and performed for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
