Ariel Skye & Lindsay Lucas

April 27 7:00 pm PDT

Second Stage

$18

Ariel Skye brings her magnetic voice and cinematic storytelling to Indie Rock with sonic one-night stands. Pulling inspiration from the jazz and rock-and-roll traditions she was raised with, Ariel often draws comparisons to Joni Mitchell’s craft, Bonnie Raitt’s soul, and Stevie Nicks’s grit. Ariel began writing music in 2019, which lent the lyrical heart to folk-inspired EP Open Spaces and stormy single Hurricane. She frequently collaborates with artists across many genres, most notably Jim Stephens, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, and Shaun Martin on New Orleans blues album Yellow River, and E-Hos on rap album UnderEstimated3. Ariel has performed her work throughout Philadelphia, New York, and Los Angeles, capturing the attention of people who relate to the vulnerability and longing her music encapsulates. Ariel’s new work explores the sharper and darker edges of these stories. Here, lust can turn to obsession, and romance becomes intertwined with money, power, and addiction. Her 2023 EP “Meanstreak” offers this shared catharsis.

The voice and pen behind iconic samples and production used by acclaimed Hip-Hop artists such as French Montana, Russ, 03 Greedo, JAY ELECTRONICA, A$AP Twelvyy, Roc Marciano, Ladybug Mecca (Digable Planets), and more, quadruple threat (vocalist, producer, rapper, songwriter) Lindsay Lucas shares original music that seamlessly blends ‘old’ and ‘new’ into a unique sonic fusion.

Known for her smooth-but-smoky vocals and rich lyricism, Lucas’ soulful sound is rooted in R&B and infused with elements of hip-hop, reggae, and almost everything else in between. Including ethereal dynamics of live vocal production, retro rhythms and analog sound design, Lucas creates an overall multidimensional celebration of all things nostalgic and contemporary.

Lindsay, originally from Manhattan but having spent her childhood on the island of Jamaica, developed a musical style inspired by her diverse upbringing. Daughter of renowned producer David Lucas and virtuosic composer Jayne Critelli, Lindsay’s pedigree of talent created an ideal environment for spawning her artistry as a “one-stop shop” creative. Starting out singing jingles as a toddler, Lucas went on to study at Berklee College of Music and led a three-year residency at America’s oldest Jazz club the revered “Wally’s Cafe and Jazz” as a household artist writing, arranging, and directing live original shows every week. Lucas has toured with music collectives Lettuce, Soulive, and The Nigel Hall Band as a background vocalist, demoed vocals for Jill Scott, is the voice of New York in multiple NYCGO campaigns, and continues to write and produce for artists with her partner dane.zone via her production company Used People.

Lindsay has built a strong social media presence and has been reposted by music industry legends such as Brian Alexander Morgan, Questlove, Denaun Porter, and Lalah Hathaway.

In 2023 Lindsay began to release music from her original project, an entirely analog homegrown album written and produced by Lindsay and dane.zone (Sonnymoon, Kendrick Lamar). This project features incredible artists such as Aja Grant (Phony Ppl, Mac Miller, Kali Uchis), Nappy Nina, Quelle Chris, and more.
