Born out of the isolation of the pandemic, Grammy-winning bassist Ben Williams and Broadway star Syndee Winters joined forces to form Butterfly Black, a BlackPop music project aimed at bringing everybody back to the dance floor. This album release party marks a significant coming-out event for both Williams and Winters, breaking them out of their respective genres to simply have a damn good time.

Butterfly Black’s strength is rooted in the dynamic blend of their individual talents and diverse artistic backgrounds. Williams stands tall among his peers in the jazz realm, having attained recognition through winning the prestigious 2009 Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Competition. His musical journey has been marked by a series of acclaimed solo albums and collaborations with esteemed figures like Pat Metheny, Robert Glasper, George Benson, Jazzmeia Horn, Carmen Lundy, and Regina Carter. His expertise and experience add depth and sophistication to Butterfly Black’s sound.

Winters, on the other hand, brings a powerful presence honed through her experiences on the Broadway stage. Her performances in iconic productions such as *Hamilton*, where she shared the stage with Lin-Manuel Miranda, *The Lion King*, where she starred as Queen Nala, *Pippin*, *Motown The Musical*, and *Jesus Christ Superstar*, alongside John Legend, have showcased her versatility as a singer, dancer, and actor. Prior to her Broadway career, she showcased her talents as a dancer for the New York Knicks basketball team and as a vocalist, collaborating with legendary artists like Grandmaster Flash on projects such as his 2009 album, *The Bridge*.

Together, Williams and Winters create a captivating synergy that elevates Butterfly Black’s music to new heights, drawing from their rich and varied artistic pasts to craft a unique and enthralling musical experience. “We invite you to dress up in your favorite retro-chic attire and live your best life with us. I know I’ll be dressed,” says Winters.

Inspired by Black Pop artists of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, Butterfly Black’s music is ready to party! With infectious rhythms, soulful melodies, and electrifying performances, they’re set to captivate audiences and create an unforgettable experience at their album release celebration. So get ready to groove and let loose as Butterfly Black takes you on a musical journey filled with joy, energy, and the spirit of celebration!”
